Famous Food Myths: How Many Of Them Are True?

We have all heard ‘zyada sugar khane se diabetes hoti hai.’ or ‘Itna ghee khaoge toh mote ho jaoge!’ from friends, relatives, and family. India, a land of superstitions is also a land of food. So obviously we have a million food myths that prevent us from enjoying our delicious food.
Here we bring to you a list of famous food myths and how much truth they hold?

1. Raw Vegetables Better Than Cooked Vegetables.

Vegetables
Actually, some vegetables are better eaten when cooked instead of raw. According to scientists, some vegetables lose nutrients when cooked. But some vegetables gain or make it easier to absorb nutrients when they are cooked.
Eat this raw: Beet, Broccoli, Onions, Garlic, Cauliflower, and Cabbage.
Eat this cooked: Tomatoes, Spinach, Potatoes, Asparagus, Carrots, and Mushrooms.

2. Ghee Is Unhealthy

Ghee is actually much healthier in comparison to butter. It helps in digestion and constipation and is very good for the digestive tract. It also helps with weight loss. In fact, cooking vegetables in ghee is beneficial than cooking in oil.

3. Late Night Snacking Makes You FAT

Late Night Snacks
Ever stayed up studying, or completing a project or just binge-watching a favorite show? Then you must have eaten at night and heard ‘This late night food will go to your hips.’ Well, NO. It is the type of food you eat that matters. As long as you burn the calories you have eaten by exercising, it doesn’t matter when you eat.

4. Honey/Brown Suger Better Than White Sugar

Brown and White Sugar
Nope, again. It is a huge myth that eating more white sugar will lead to diabetes. White or brown sugar or honey, they are all the same. They all can lead to weight gain if eaten in large quantities. Honey is better for allergies and cough related illnesses. Over-consumption of all three can lead to diabetes, weight gain and tooth decay.
