Spaghetti is a globally popular and loved dish that originated in Italy. The word “spaghetti” comes from the Italian word “spaghetto” which means “thin string” or “twine”. “spaghetto” is used to describe an individual strand of spaghetti pasta.

Noodles is a globally popular and loved dish that originated in China.  The history of noodles is thousands of years old and can be traced back to ancient China. The process of making noodles is believed to have been developed during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE – 220 CE). A single individual strand is called a “noodle”.

The famous Italian cylindrical dish is a widely loved type of pasta. Spaghetti is believed to have become famous in the 19th century in Italy after the establishment of Spaghetti factories and overseas as well, especially in the USA. 

The famous Chinese usually cylindrical dish is widely popular. The exact time as to when noodles became so popular can’t quite be traced. Noodles became famous due to trade routes such as the Silk Road that expanded it to other regions including parts of Asia, Europe and the middle east.

This staple food of Italy is made from durum-wheat semolina. They are often long, thin and cylindrical. Spaghetti has a wide variety, like you have Spaghettini that is thinner than regular spaghetti and takes less cooking time and you also have Spaghettoni that is thicker than regular spaghetti and takes more cooking time. 

This staple food of China is made from unleavened dough that is cut, stretched or extruded into long strips or strings. They are usually long, thin and cylindrical. Noodles have a wide variety as the migration of the dish resulted into many local varieties in different shapes, sizes and tastes. Like the very thin Somen noodles (Japanese) and the soft wheat flour Lamian noodles (Chinese).

Dried spaghetti is cooked in boiling, salted water until it softens or becomes tender. It is then served with various sauces and toppings. It typically takes 8-12 minutes to cook spaghetti, the total time to prepare spaghetti on average might take around 25-40 minutes to make spaghetti from scratch, including cooking the pasta and preparing the sauce. They are usually eaten with a fork.

Noodles are usually boiled in water or broth to soften them. It is then served with various sauces and other dishes like meat, seafood and vegetables. It typically takes 2-12 minutes to cook noodles, the total time to prepare noodles might take around 30-60 minutes including cooking sauce and noodles, combining them and serving them. They are usually eaten with chopsticks but are eaten with forks as well.

Spaghetti is a fiber and protein rich pasta that also contains essential minerals such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, and magnesium. Moreover, it is cholesterol-free and low in saturated fats. Whole wheat spaghetti is a healthier variant which is richer in nutrients and has unrefined carbohydrates.

Noodles are a wholesome source of complex carbohydrates and fiber as well as essential vitamins and minerals. Healthier variants of noodles like whole-grain or alternative options like chickpea combined with healthy vegetables and lean proteins offer even greater nutritional benefits as a balanced meal.
